Martha Lanier lives in a northern suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. She is the mother of three, the grandmother of seven and wife to Jim for over 40 years.
She believes we are each capable of achieving far more than we think is possible -- when we stretch our comfort zones and believe in ourselves. Martha is no stranger to facing her own fears and overcoming self-limiting barriers. Once petrified, she overcame her fear of speaking in front of groups, jumped out of a perfectly good plane and most recently, became a breast cancer survivor.
In April, 2008, Martha discovered a lump in her right breast one week after her yearly physical exam. Results revealed she had breast cancer identified as Stage I infiltrating ductal carcinoma. She chose to take aggressive action and on June 3 had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstructive surgery using an abdominal TRAM.
Just 6 weeks post-op she registered as a walker and began training for the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. Not only did she complete the 30 mile walk with her 2 daughters, but was also a guest speaker during the closing ceremonies. To celebrate her first year of being cancer-free, Martha competed in the Aflac Iron Girl Sprint Triathlon in June, 2009.
Content for her programs is based in part on her personal experiences -- her skydiving adventure, surviving breast cancer, surviving an unlikely and unexpected heart attack, and at 62, crossing the finish line at the Aflac Iron Girl Triathlon.
Before starting her own company, she worked as a medical secretary, executive administrative assistant, office manager, HR director and VP of REO/Relocation Services.
Woman's Day magazine featured her daring skydiving adventure in an article about women over 50 who have taken risks. She was influenced by her daughter who has served two tours of duty in the Middle East as a C-2 pilot in the Navy on board the aircraft carrier, the Constellation.
In 2006/2007, Martha Lanier served as president of National Speakers Association - Georgia Chapter. Her election as president by her peers underscores her success as a leader, mentor and decision maker. |
